If you happen to have a subscription to Style at Home or follow multiple design blogs this won’t be news to you, but I’m excited enough about it that I’m keen to share.  As an aficionado of mid-century modern design I am thrilled about some new furniture that Ikea is coming out with (coming to stores in Canada this month I believe).  I’m not a big fan of Ikea pieces like the expedit book shelves because they are so obviously Ikea (though admittedly I have one in my daughter’s bedroom for toy storage). But these new pieces don’t shout “Ikea!” and I like it.

I love browsing vintage designer mid-century modern pieces on line but they tend to be pricey. I get it that it is nice to be able to say, “oh yes, that chair is a Kai Kristiansen” and my inner snob loves to be able to name drop, but let’s be real. We can’t always be spending $400 on a dining chair or $8000 on a dining table. I decided to look up some pricey, designer mid-century mod pieces of furniture and compare them to what Ikea has to offer and this is what I found:

Honestly, the real thing is almost always going to be better, but hey, a stylish imitation is nothing to scoff at when you are living on a budget.
