Every parent I spoke to about the transition from a crib to big girl bed advised waiting until it was absolutely necessary. Many a good sleeper has turned bad after making this tricky transition so I headed their advise. However, with her third birthday coming quickly it was beginning to feel ridiculous to heft my not so little girl into her crib. And so, we decided that as a special present for her third birthday we would get Sofia her big girl bed, decked with mama made pillows and duvet. We opted for a sweet daybed from Ikea which also provided much need clothing storage with its giant drawers. Here is the final result:

Sofia wanted a Lightning McQueen duvet but I compromised with a Lightning McQueen pillow (not shown).

Oh, and if you are wondering about the quality of sleep…my fantastic little sleeper was making so many midnight trips to our bed (it’s scary to open your eyes and see an unexpected little face there!), that we ended up putting a baby gate at her door to lock her in. The gate helped but I join with all those other parents and say: “Don’t do it until you have to!!!”.
